B Lab of U.S. & Canada
B Lab began in 2006 with the idea that a different kind of economy was not only possible, but necessary — and that business could lead the way towards a new, stakeholder-driven model.
B Lab creates standards, policies, tools, and programs that shift the behavior, culture, and structural underpinnings of capitalism. They mobilize the B Corp community to take collective action on addressing society’s most critical challenges.
Together, we are shifting our global economy from a system that profits few to one that benefits all: advancing a new model that moves from concentrating wealth and power to ensuring equity, from extraction to generation, and from prioritizing individualism to embracing interdependence.

1% For The Planet
1% for the Planet was founded on the idea that a company has a responsibility to give back for the use of our planet’s resources. It started with that core idea, and more than 20 years later, we’re still helping businesses make good on their commitments. In 2002, Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, created 1% for the Planet and started a global movement.
The idea was simple: because companies profit from the resources they take from the earth, they should protect those resources.
To date, 1% for the Planet has certified over $784 million in donations to environmental causes. This number grows exponentially as our network grows each year—proving the power of collective action.

The Alliance or Collective Action
The Alliance for Collective Action convenes leaders of environmental and social movements to advance solutions for a thriving planet. Rooted in the belief that collaboration amplifies impact, we bring together diverse voices from across our region to address pressing challenges, foster inclusive dialogue, and develop innovative solutions. Their mission centers on building bridges between organizations, activists, businesses, and residents, ensuring everyone has a seat at the table and a role in creating a more equitable society.
Through strategic partnerships, educational programs, and hands-on volunteer initiatives, the Alliance for Collective Action mobilizes shared resources to tackle issues such as economic inequality, racial justice, and environmental sustainability. By cultivating relationships and championing cooperative action, we strive to create lasting positive change and strengthen the social fabric of our community, inspiring others to join the movement for collective progress.
